2014 was the planet’s warmest year on record. Now, one year doesn’t make a
trend, but this does: 14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all fallen in
the first 15 years of this century.
I’ve heard some folks try to dodge the
evidence by saying they’re not scientists; that we don’t have enough information
to act. Well, I’m not a scientist, either. But you know what, I know a lot of
really good scientists at NASA, and at NOAA, and at our major universities. And
the best scientists in the world are all telling us that our activities are
changing the climate, and if we don’t act forcefully, we’ll continue to see
rising oceans, longer, hotter heat waves, dangerous droughts and floods, and
massive disruptions that can trigger greater migration and conflict and hunger
around the globe. The Pentagon says that climate change poses immediate risks
to our national security. We should act like it. (Applause.)
And
that’s why, over the past six years, we’ve done more than ever to combat climate
change, from the way we produce energy to the way we use it. That’s why we’ve
set aside more public lands and waters than any administration in history. And
that’s why I will not let this Congress endanger the health of our children by
turning back the clock on our efforts. I am determined to make sure that
American leadership drives international action. (Applause.)
In
Beijing, we made a historic announcement: The United States will double the
pace at which we cut carbon pollution. And China committed, for the first time,
to limiting their emissions. And because the world’s two largest economies came
together, other nations are now stepping up, and offering hope that this year
the world will finally reach an agreement to protect the one planet we’ve got.

Värmen fördelade sig dock inte homogent och många i tex USA kanske höjer lite på ögonbrynen över att 2014 skulle vara det varmaste året hittills. USA var nämligen en av de geografiska områden som inte hade ett varmt år. Men övriga delar av världen, i synnerhet i Arktis hade rekordvarmt. Nedan visas skillnader för de fyra säsongerna (grafik från Columbia Universitet).Sammantaget ger detta att 2014 blev rekordvarmt.

Fördelen med satellitmätningar av den globala temperaturen är att de täcker hela klotet, inklusive haven och långt upp mot polerna. Dessutom undviker de den s.k. ”heat island” effekten som uppstår då markbaserade termometrar visar en ökande temperatur när de omges av byggnader och flygfältens landningsbanor.
Den globala temperaturen för år 2014 hamnar enligt RSS på sjätte plats, långt efter rekordåren 1998 och 2010. Den ”obevekliga trenden” för den globala uppvärmningen visar på 0. Ännu en hype spräckt. It’s official: 2014 has taken the title of hottest year on record. That ranking comes courtesy of data released Monday by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the first of four major global temperature recordkeepers to release their data for last year......

Seasonal temperatures also paint a picture of a planet that didn’t get a break. Spring, summer and fall were all record-setting hot. Last winter was the only season not to set a record, and even that was still the sixth-warmest winter.
JMA is one of the four major groups that use both ground measurements and satellites to compute the planet’s average temperature. The other three include NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the U.S. and the Hadley Center in the U.K. There are subtle differences in how they analyze temperature data, but there’s generally broad agreement, particularly the upward trend in temperatures over the past century.
The other groups are expected to release their data in the coming weeks and confirm that 2014 was indeed the hottest year on record. And some scientists think it could get even hotter sooner. Strong trade winds in the Pacific have likely had a dampening effect on the global average temperature by essentially allowing the ocean to store more heat, but those winds are expected to weaken in the near future as part of a natural fluctuation......

Det sista decenniet varmast.
Klimatskepikernas ofta upprepade mantra att medeltemperaturen på jorden inte ökat under det sista decenniet kommer nu på skam. I stället visar det sig enl. TT att medeltemperaturen under det sista decenniet var den högsta som någonsin uppmätts!
