Carbon sequestration in Norway and increased yields in Zambia were the highlights from the first Nordic Biochar seminar held in Oslo 9-10 Nov. 2011. Production of biochar is a topic that has received more attention in recent years as a possible measure to improve the carbon balance in agriculture and improve soil quality in some soil types.Under Norwegian conditions, it was explained by researcher Adam O'Toole from Bioforsk, that in 2011 3 tons per hectare of biochar in a clay-loam soil increased oat yield by 6% compared to the control.
