The mid-term elections results in the US are good news for the climate (Från Point carbon)

“Yesterday’s elections send a strong signal that California is committed to pursuing its ambitious climate policy. The carbon market has been eagerly awaiting confirmation that California was serious about its cap-and-trade plans, and now all the pieces are falling into place. With the proposed regulations clarifying a lot of elements on how the market would work, and the political green light from the electorate, we expect emitters, financials and project developers to ramp up their activity out West quite rapidly. There are still more hurdles and there may be more delays in the future, but the key is that the end goal has been reaffirmed by Californian voters."
"Beyond California, the symbolic importance of the defeat of Proposition 23, which sought to suspend California’s greenhouse gas emission reduction law, cannot be overstated. As governments prepare to gather in Cancun to discuss yet again a global climate agreement, US negotiators could have been weakened by a backlash in California. Instead, California, and the others states in the Western Climate Initiative (WCI), may help to put market mechanisms back in the tool box at the federal level.”
